A commitment to sustainability

Byers Place is being developed and constructed by Arcadia Properties, Inc., a designated Energy Star Builder. At Byers Place, Arcadia has embarked on a design and construction process to achieve maximum sustainability through LEED Certification. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is a third party certification program and a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. The LEED program incorporates many of the aspects of Energy Star, including a rigorous insulation inspection, as well as several other sustainability requirements. For more information, please visit the website for the U.S. Green Building Council.

Arcadia has applied for LEED certification for all of the homes under construction at Byers Place. The effort on behalf of LEED Certification began early in the Byers Place design process, and included energy efficient design as well as heating and cooling engineering. Through collaboration with Rinnai USA, a leader in energy efficient heating technology, Arcadia has incorporated “state of the art” heating efficiencies and comfort into each Byers Place home. The objective is to significantly reduce energy use while enhancing livability. Rinnai USA prepared a Byers Place case study (pdf - 975kb) that provides detailed information on its specific heating engineering and products. Many of these technologies have been incorporated into previous homes built by Arcadia Properties, Inc., and have proven to be durable, efficient, and comfortable.

Other aspects of the LEED designation include the “Thermal Bypass Checklist,” also a component of Energy Star Designation. This checklist represents a series of conformance inspections. At Byers Place, Arcadia utilized the services of Big Al’s Insulating, an Energy Star company, to install blown cellulose insulation in all exterior walls and ceilings. Arcadia’s energy efficiency consultant is Lightly Treading, Inc., an exclusive Xcel Energy partner in Colorado. Lightly Treading has inspected and approved each phase of construction for energy conservation and sustainability.
